Hydrophilic PVDF Filter Cartridge Applications
Rather than selecting a cartridge by size alone, ECOFILTRONE™ assesses process filtration duties. For clarification and final polishing with membrane cartridge filters, the contaminant, filtrate quality and the process flow are defined first.
Industrial water and process rinses
Start with water chemistry, suspended-solids load, required flow and downstream equipment sensitivity. For a high particle burden, review pre-filtration before placing a fine membrane at the final stage.
Aqueous chemical solutions
Provide the chemical name, concentration, pH, temperature and contact time, including acid, alkali or oxidant cleaning exposure. Compatibility must cover the PVDF membrane, PP hardware and the selected seals together.
Protein-containing process liquids
Define acceptable product recovery and an analytical sampling method before a trial. A hydrophilic surface does not necessarily establish low protein binding; verify that requirement with the actual liquid and finished cartridge.
Quality-sensitive duties
For biological, pharmaceutical or food and beverage processes, send the specific quality and document requirements with the enquiry. If the process must sterilize a liquid or demonstrate bacterial retention, select a validated filtration route and qualify it for that process.
PVDF Membrane and Cartridge Materials
Our ECPVA hydrophilic PVDF membrane is made from hydrophilic polyvinylidene fluoride. ECOFILTRONE™ supplies polypropylene cage, core and end caps; confirm the remaining wetted components and sealing configuration against your liquid and housing before replacement.
A good membrane does not necessarily ensure a compatible seal and may still allow fluid bypass. When reviewing chemical compatibility, we use references and drawings as well as interface measurements and existing model information. We follow the whole assembly approach described in the Global filter selection guide.
- Send housing drawings or clear views of the cartridge seat and retention arrangement.
- List every process-contact liquid and cleaning agent, with concentration and temperature; assess chemical resistance for any solvent exposure.
- Compare connector geometry and seal material explicitly, including silicone if specified by the installed housing; an SOE description does not establish interchangeability.
Wetting, Cleaning and Steam Processing
For hydrophilic liquid-filtration selection, we review the proposed ECPVA wetting and cleaning procedure with the application. Hydrophobic PVDF and hydrophilic PVDF are not interchangeable descriptions; the wrong membrane surface can change wetting behavior and the suitability of a vent or liquid duty.
- 01 // Identify the wetting fluid, rinse endpoint and any product-contact restrictions.
- 02 // Record cleaning chemicals, concentration, exposure time, temperature and flow direction.
- 03 // Keep continuous liquid operation separate from temporary steam processing.
The ECPVA catalogue lists steam processing at 125°C for 30 minutes, for 30 cycles; our maximum liquid operating temperature is 80°C. Confirm the steam type, selected assembly, exposure-time starting point, pressure direction, cooling procedure and acceptance checks before applying that catalogue condition.
Steam exposure and process qualification
A listed cycle is not a process-specific sterilization validation. The CDC steam guidance explains why steam contact, temperature, pressure and time must work together; it does not validate an installed ECPVA assembly.
Procedures outside the confirmed limits
When the process conditions are defined, we assist in documenting them before confirming the process sample configuration. Other filtration routes are evaluated for processes outside the confirmed assembly limits.
ECPVA Filter Cartridge Specifications
ECOFILTRONE™ supplies ECPVA pore sizes of 0.1, 0.22, 0.45 and 0.65 µm, with a 69 mm outside diameter and catalogue lengths of 5–40 in. Our listed filtration area is 0.65 m² per 10 in cartridge; match the required throughput using a representative liquid trial, not area alone.
ECPVA catalogue specification and use boundary
Two-point differential-pressure comparison
For normal forward liquid differential pressure, subtract downstream pressure from upstream pressure using readings recorded on the same basis. The requirements for high flow rate must be determined with viscosity, temperature and the complete assembly; the limits described above do not rate reverse flow, steam, pressure transients or housing pressure.
PVDF Cartridge Pricing and Lead Times

Evaluate product quotes on an equal basis, including seals, packaging, documentation and shipping terms. In practice, minor variations in sealing materials, packaging, and documentation and shipping conditions may affect your purchase decision. We coordinate shipment packaging and shipping after technical and order confirmation; preparation and dispatch times exclude transit.
Accepted-volume campaign cost
Use cartridge consumption, change-out labor, cleaning, disposal and allocated downtime from one defined campaign. Divide that selected cost by the accepted filtrate volume; the trade-off is lost if one trial counts rejected product as useful output or uses a different stopping rule.
Quality Review and Technical Documentation
Prior to confirming your order, we will review and evaluate the information provided by you for compliance with your requirements. We coordinate product-specific material or compliance-document requirements where applicable to support your evaluation.
- Identify the exact model, pore size, length, connection and seal in the technical record.
- If low extractables is an acceptance criterion, define the test fluid, method and acceptable extractable levels before a trial.
- For an integrity tested requirement, specify the test method, limit, wetting fluid and conditions to be demonstrated for the selected finished element.
Confirm the complete wetted assembly, then evaluate the selected cartridge with the actual liquid and an agreed acceptance endpoint.
Identical-micron filters may vary in test basis and measured retention; the ASTM F838-20 standard challenge test does not make a 0.22 µm rating a guarantee of product sterility. An unqualified substitution risks product quality because a pore label leaves the actual retention conditions unspecified; ASTM F838-20 distinguishes a standard bacterial-retention challenge from product- and process-specific validation; a 0.22 µm label alone does not qualify a sterile filtration process.
ECOFILTRONE™ application-selection principle
ECOFILTRONE™ provides technical selection support for sterile filtration production requirements; select the appropriate validated product and complete process qualification before use.
Prepare a model-specific technical review →Configuration, Trials and Ordering
We define requirements for filtration and filtration replacement to meet your process operating conditions. The ECPVA Process Dossier connects duty details, sample acceptance, the final quote and the product purchase order.
Duty review
Send the liquid, concentration, temperature, flow, solids load and required filtrate quality.
Assembly confirmation
We review membrane, PP components, connection, seals, installed dimensions and housing details.
Controlled trial
We support sample selection; your team records operation and verifies the agreed acceptance criteria.
Quotation and order
We confirm configuration and quantity, then follow production, inspection, packaging and shipping coordination.
Replacement matching inputs
Send measured drawings for the existing installation, showing placement of seats and retention covers. We review adaptation requirements in the drawing for replacement matching. Confirmation of the full range of operation for the existing installed housing and proposed replacement is required.
- Existing model, length, diameter, end-cap details and seal specification.
- Current upstream/downstream pressure records, flow and temperature.
- Cleaning or steam procedure, quality criteria and any document requirements.
Upon shipment, we will provide help for installation and evaluation of performance in service. We help with troubleshooting and operating-performance follow-up, including assessing the effect of process changes.
Application Trial Records
Use a controlled trial to decide whether a particular hydrophilic PVDF filter cartridge fits the process, including any low protein adsorption or high flow requirement. ECOFILTRONE™ supports the sample configuration; your measured record establishes accepted output and the basis for comparing performance.
- Choose constant-pressure or constant-flow control and record the setpoint; use the same mode for each comparison.
- Match the fluid, pore size, membrane area, housing, wetting procedure and initial feed conditions.
- Record elapsed time, flow, temperature, upstream/downstream pressure and differential pressure through the run.
- Stop at the same agreed pressure, flow or quality endpoint; keep rejected output separate from accepted volume.
Accepted protein mass and sampling
For each concentration expressed in mg/L, provide the corresponding volume in L. Mass is their product in mg. Use a mixed collection pool, or apply mass accounting over measured segments, as detailed in the stream-specific mass-accounting example provided in the membrane fractionation study.
Recovery calculation
Accepted-mass recovery = 100 × accepted mass ÷ feed masswith positive feed mass. Zero accepted mass is a valid result; recovery above 100% requires investigation of sampling, concentration, dilution or mass balance, and a below-detection-limit result remains a bound rather than exact zero.
- Do not multiply the final grab-sample concentration by the entire campaign volume.
- Record hold-up, residual liquid, rinses, sample losses and analytical uncertainty where relevant.
- Recovery reflects product yield; it does not isolate adsorption or establish bacterial removal.

Alternative Filtration Routes
The attainment of a nominal pore size may still give poor operating capacity or an unsuitable process-contact assembly when the wrong grade of membrane is chosen. In such cases, we review the complete installed filtration assembly.
High suspended-solids loading
Consider a suitable bag filter, melt-blown or other depth prefilter before a fine membrane. The WaterTech prefiltration article discusses verified retention and overall operating cost; its supplier-specific RO examples are separate from ECPVA performance.
Gas, vent or different wetting duty
Evaluate an appropriate hydrophobic PVDF or PTFE finished assembly when a water-repellent gas or vent membrane is required. Hydrophilic ECPVA liquid service is not interchangeable with a hydrophobic vent specification.
Different product-contact behavior
Compare a suitable PES or other membrane assembly using the same actual liquid and acceptance method. Neither polymer name alone establishes the lower binding, extractables or better throughput result.
Sterile or extreme operating duty
Choose a validated sterilizing-grade route for sterile production, or an assembly rated for the actual temperature, pressure direction and chemistry. Operation above 80°C, reverse pressure or an unconfirmed steam procedure needs a separate confirmed selection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hydrophilic. ECPVA is our liquid-service PVDF series.
Four options: 0.1, 0.22, 0.45 and 0.65 µm. Select against your filtration acceptance criteria.
Compare the specific finished cartridges with the same feed, area, pore size, control mode and acceptance endpoint. Measure accepted protein mass and account for sampling and residual liquid; low protein binding is a requirement to verify, not a conclusion from the membrane name.
For normal forward liquid flow, differential pressure is upstream pressure minus downstream pressure on the same reference basis. Our catalogue lists maximum differential pressure of 4.0 bar at 20°C and 2.0 bar at 80°C; housing pressure and reverse-pressure limits require separate confirmation.
No: our maximum liquid operating temperature is 80°C. The listed 125°C, 30-minute, 30-cycle steam condition is separate processing and requires confirmation of the selected assembly and procedure.
Send liquid chemistry, concentration, temperature, exposure time and all cleaning agents, together with the housing and current cartridge details. We review membrane, PP components, seals and connection geometry as one configuration. For a biopharmaceutical buffer, reagent, cell culture or vaccine duty, identify applicable USP documentation, extractables acceptance and process-validation requirements before selection.
Provide the target flow with actual liquid viscosity and temperature, then choose constant-flow or constant-pressure control and an agreed endpoint. Record flow, time and differential pressure during the run; 0.65 m² per 10 in is an area value, not a guaranteed flow.
Decide when to schedule element replacement from the selected assembly limits, required flow and accepted filtrate quality before the run. Use operating records rather than a calendar interval or visible outlet flow alone, and agree the trigger for the actual duty.
Review solids loading, particle distribution and the current filtration stages before simply choosing another fine membrane. A suitable roughing or depth prefilter can move larger-particle loading upstream; confirm its contribution with a matched trial.
The quotation confirms model, pore size, length, connection, seal, quantity, document scope, packaging and shipping requirements. Our response to quotation requests is within 24 hours; submit complete duty details to support technical confirmation.
Yes. Free samples are available with customer-paid freight; trial orders are supported.
Confirmed in-stock products are dispatched in 4–5 days; custom samples take 7 days or custom batches 14 days after technical configuration confirmation. These times exclude transit; our payment terms are 30% deposit and 70% balance before shipment.
