Nylon Filter Cartridge Selection

Four ECPC retention grades are supplied in the nylon pleated filter cartridge format. Choose the grade based on the quality of the filtrate, the available pressure, and the nature of the process liquid. A trial should be run to verify the suitability of the selected grade rather than selecting the grade with the smallest micron rating.

ECPC Grade Selection Starting Point Trial Check
0.22 µm

Fine particulate control where the process calls for the tightest ECPC grade

Filtrate specification, clean pressure drop and component recovery

0.45 µm

Fine clarification when the required quality permits this grade

Compare quality and pressure behavior with the finer option

0.65 µm

Polishing where a coarser grade can meet the acceptance target

Particle carryover and processed volume at the required flow

1.2 µm

Process filtration with a less restrictive retention requirement

Downstream quality and loading under representative conditions

Loading and Filtration-Train Review

A pleated membrane filter functions differently than a depth filter or a filter bag. When there is a quick build up of solids on a membrane pleated filter, consider upstream solids removal before increasing pumping pressure or changing to a tighter grade. 1

  • For industrial water treatment, identify whether the target is particulate polishing or protection of a downstream process.
  • For an existing high flow filter or bag stage, provide its rating and measured outlet quality.
  • For process solutions, specify which suspended contaminants should be removed and which dissolved ingredients must remain.

Nylon66 membrane and wetted materials

Our ECPC filter media is a naturally hydrophilic Nylon66 membrane, with PET and PP used in the support, core and cage construction. Chemical compatibility belongs to the complete wetted assembly, including the end fittings, seals and housing. A membrane-only compatibility chart is not a substitute for reviewing these structural components.

Nylon66 Membrane

Nylon 6,6 provides the filtration surface. Review the actual aqueous solution or solvent blend, concentration, pH, exposure time and temperature against the process duty.

Wetted Component – PET and PP Components

Polyester (PET) and polypropylene (PP) also contact the liquid within the cartridge assembly. Include them in the compatibility review instead of applying a membrane-only chart to every component.

Wetted Component – End Fittings and Seals

We check replacement matching from your drawing, dimensions or sample. Confirm sealing geometry, housing engagement and the selected wetted materials before ordering.

Actual Fluid, Actual Exposure

Organic solvents, alcohol-containing mixtures, acids and bases need concentration-specific review; a material description such as solvent resistant does not establish suitability for every blend. Changes in exposure can affect swelling, flow resistance and extractables, while adsorption can alter a valuable ingredient without an obvious change in liquid volume.1

▼
  • List all components, including cleaning agents and low-concentration functional ingredients.
  • Supply normal and upset temperature, contact duration and differential pressure.
  • Identify forward flow, possible reverse pressure, valve-closing transients and startup/shutdown sequences.
  • Set acceptance targets for filtrate quality and component recovery before the trial.

Fluid-to-Assembly Qualification Path

Prepare a single review record for the fluid, Nylon66, PET/PP construction, fittings and process conditions. The worksheet organizes unresolved inputs for engineering review and gives you a trial preparation checklist.

Prepare Your Wetted-Assembly Review

Wetting and Steam-Cycle Review

We supply inherently hydrophilic ECPC membranes without added glue, adhesive or wetting agents. Water can wet the nylon surface without an alcohol pre-wetting step; process rinsing and conditioning should follow the accepted procedure for your liquid and cleanliness requirement.

Liquid Service

The maximum operating temperature is 80°C / 176°F. Check temperature together with differential pressure, liquid chemistry and the installed assembly.

Steam-Cycle Conditions

The ECPC steam-treatment specification is 125°C / 257°F for 30 minutes, up to 30 cycles. Review the exact configuration, steam conditions and supporting housing before use. A steam-cycle specification is not a substitute for a normal operating rating.

From Nominal Size to Installed Fit

A cartridge filter of the same nominal size can not always be substituted. The installed fitting and seal must be evaluated. Engagement of the housing against the element being replaced and the sealing surface must be checked against the drawing.

  • Record flow and viscosity at the operating temperature, alongside clean and end-of-run pressure drop.
  • Obtain the permitted differential pressure for unlisted temperatures; do not interpolate between the two stated points.
  • Set a changeout target within the approved operating envelope instead of using the maximum structural limit as a routine replacement trigger.
  • Review reverse pressure and valve transients separately from steady forward readings.

Compare Cost per Accepted Batch

Cartridge price is one of the costs that batch filtration cost includes. These costs are non-overlapping replacement labor and shutdown costs, unrecovered liquid hold-up, rejected liquid loss and key-ingredient loss, if any. Costs are evaluated for the batch and also on a unit basis for the accepted volume.

N66 Batch Recovery Cost Model

Enter your own costs and measured or planned trial inputs for two options. Separate unrecovered hold-up and rejected liquid from recoverable material, then record additional ingredient loss without counting the same product loss twice.

Compare Your Batch Filtration Costs

  • Use the same batch volume, currency and acceptance standard for both options.
  • Measure hold-up and key-component recovery under comparable operating conditions.
  • Confirm stock, final configuration and the dispatch schedule in the quotation.

Quality Review and Trial Acceptance

We support specification verification and liquid trials on your representative samples prior to repeat supply. Define the requirements on the quality of filtrate, pressure drop, processed volume, and product recovery, so that acceptance of the process is based on the defined standards rather than by visual inspection.

Fit and Operating Behavior

  • Confirm end-fitting engagement, seals and the installed filter housing.
  • Record liquid temperature, flow, inlet/outlet pressure and differential pressure.
  • Capture loading trends and startup, shutdown or valve-sequence events.

Filtrate and Recovery

  • Check the defined particulate, clarity or other process-quality target.
  • Evaluate extractables and cleanliness where the application requires them.
  • Measure critical ingredient recovery separately from total liquid recovery.

Analytical Controls for Ingredient Recovery

Product-recovery risk can remain even when collected liquid volume looks normal, because nylon can bind proteins and some other analytes. A laboratory filter used in sample preparation can also change the measured recovery, so document analytical blanks, an appropriate unfiltered or independently prepared control, and the processing of samples and standards.

ECOFILTRONE™ engineering support

We review technical data, material records and application-specific documentation against the selected product and actual document holder. For a validated microbial-retention duty, specify the required challenge, integrity and process-validation evidence during selection; a pore-size label is not a substitute for that qualification.6

Quality Review and Trial Acceptance

ECOFILTRONE™ starts selection with the complete wetted assembly and the acceptance criteria for your actual liquid. Keep fit, pressure behavior and key-ingredient recovery in the same trial record.

Nylon Membrane Filter Cartridge FAQ

  • ECPC uses a Nylon66 membrane in a pleated filter cartridge. Nylon6 melt-blown depth cartridges are a different product family, so specify the construction as well as the grade when requesting a replacement.

  • Start with the required filtrate quality and compare trial results at the intended flow. Check pressure drop and ingredient recovery together; specify validation requirements separately when the duty calls for microbial control.

  • Review the exact solvent blend, concentration, temperature and contact time against Nylon66, PET/PP and the selected seals. Include cleaning chemicals and low-concentration ingredients in the same assessment.

  • The maximum operating temperature is 80°C. The separate steam-treatment entry is 125°C for 30 minutes and 30 cycles, subject to exact configuration and cycle review.

  • We support replacement matching from the existing specification, drawing or sample. Confirm nominal size, end fitting, sealing geometry, wetted construction and operating duty, then approve the trial configuration.

  • Service life depends on loading, required flow, viscosity, pretreatment and the accepted changeout criteria. Record clean and end-of-run pressure drop, processed volume and filtrate quality during the representative trial; separate gradual loading from sudden changes caused by operating events. Use those records with your process quality limit to establish a replacement schedule, and review the feed or pretreatment whenever repeat runs depart from the accepted pattern.

  • Review cleaning and reuse requirements for the exact assembly before attempting them. Forward-pressure specifications do not establish reverse-pressure tolerance; define the cleaning sequence, integrity or quality checks and acceptance criteria.

  • Membrane adsorption can affect a small but important ingredient without a comparable change in collected volume. Check a formulation-specific assay and verify that analytical sample filtration does not bias the result.4

  • Our custom minimum order is 100 pieces, with standard trial-order quantities confirmed by product. We accept 30% deposit and 70% before shipment.

  • Send the required grade and length, end-fitting or existing model information, liquid composition, temperature, pressure, flow, quantity and destination. We return your quote within 24 hours and confirm the specification and supply schedule with the order.
