Seawater Desalination (SWRO) Filtration

Seawater Desalination (SWRO) Filtration Cartridges

Engineer-reviewed quote within 24 hours Replacement-fit review Sample and trial support Product-specific documents

Seawater desalination filtration starts with the duty left by the intake and upstream pretreatment. Retention is based on flow, housing interface and seal details. ECOFILTRONE supplies industrial filter cartridges and helps customers match them to a defined SWRO protection stage rather than selecting from a micron number alone.

  • Our application review covers high flow, pleated, melt-blown, string-wound and other liquid filtration options.
  • OEM replacement matching is available when the installed reference, drawing or housing data is supplied.

Begin with the element in-service reference, housing drawing, flow per housing, target rating, and recent differential pressure history.

Cartridge-stage position between upstream treatment and RO protection

A cartridge filter is a guard stage, not a correction for an unstable pretreatment process. In an SWRO plant, its job can be to catch residual particle carryover before the high-pressure pump and RO membrane, but the duty changes with intake type, coagulation, media filtration, ultrafiltration and source water behavior.

Risk rises when a desalination plant assumes the seawater reverse osmosis feed water is stable because one particle metric is acceptable. Particulate, organic and biological loads can move differently, so ECOFILTRONE engineers review the duty around the selected 5 µm or other rating instead of treating it as a plant-wide answer.

First review what is presented to the cartridge housing. Relevant evidence can include suspended solids, turbidity or SDI history, organic or biological events, flow, clean pressure drop and the approved terminal differential pressure for the element.

SWRO Protection-Stage Map

1. Intake evidence

Open or subsurface intake, seasonal change, algae and known contaminants.

2. Upstream process

Screening, clarification, media, UF or another pretreatment route.

3. Residual load

Particle size, solids behavior, organic load and biological indicators.

4. Protection duty

Define what the cartridge must retain before the RO system.

5. Fit and trial

Confirm housing interface, then record DP, hours and processed volume.

Decision rule

This map can end with high flow filters, a pleated cartridge, a depth cartridge, a bag pre-stage, or no separate cartridge stage. A cartridge is not a substitute for stable upstream control, and mechanical fit does not prove treatment performance.

Particulate protection

Use particle and differential-pressure evidence to define retention duty. A low SDI result by itself does not describe organic or biological membrane fouling potential.

Process boundary

Plant-side process owners remain responsible for intake, chemistry, pretreatment design and operating limits. The approved specification defines the cartridge match ECOFILTRONE owns; a changed feed or process requires a new review.

Cartridge families for SWRO pretreatment duty

Construction should follow the load profile, rating basis and housing rather than a product label. Available configurations include polypropylene pleated media, melt-blown depth media, string-wound elements, membrane cartridges and industrial liquid filter bags for different positions in a filtration system.

The wrong choice can raise pressure-drop risk or fail the intended guard duty because media area, load behavior and rating basis are not interchangeable. ECOFILTRONE confirms the candidate against the desalination plant stage and numeric fit record before a sample or custom batch is released.

High-flow PP pleated

High-flow PP pleated

Large diameter and high filtration area support duties where fewer elements per housing are preferred. Interface review confirms flow direction, handle or end style, seal geometry and whether the candidate uses inside-to-outside or outside-to-inside flow.

Standard PP pleated

Standard PP pleated

Use when the installed housing accepts common DOE, 222, 226 or Code 7 interfaces. Before release, our team matches length, outside diameter, end connection, O-ring material and micron rating.

Melt-blown PP depth

Melt-blown PP depth

A melt-blown cartridge can suit a depth-loading duty when the incoming solid load and required retention basis support it. A nominal rating is not treated as interchangeable with an absolute rating.

String-wound and bag pre-stage

String-wound and bag pre-stage

String-wound cartridges or liquid filter bags enter the review when the upstream load, housing and changeout plan support a separate pre-stage. That decision is separate from the final cartridge protecting the reverse osmosis system.

Cartridge Fit Passport for New and Replacement Systems

A model name by itself is not enough for a replacement proposal. Verify the reference against the housing drawing or measured element to determine geometry, seal location, flow direction and media.

Fit Passport Record

Application position, upstream pretreatment and target protection duty
Installed brand/model reference, drawing revision and clear photos
Length and outside diameter with any adapters and handles.
Interface geometry, gasket or O-ring material.
Flow direction in element and housing.
Media, support, construction, and rating.
Clean and terminal differential-pressure criteria from the approved operating log.
Required datasheet, drawing, material and inspection documents

Incomplete Reference Risk

“We have the old model number but not the current drawing” is an input gap, not a fit decision. Our team confirms measured length, OD, interface and seal before release.

Process Mismatch Risk

“The cartridge fits, but differential pressure rises much faster than expected” separates housing fit from load performance. Possible causes can sit upstream, in the rating basis or in flow allocation.

Compatibility References

Buyer-supplied references for Pall HFU/HFA, 3M/CUNO 700 HFM, 3M/CUNO 740 MHFB, Parker Fulflo MegaFlow HFA and Pentair Aqualine HFP families can be reviewed. These names identify compatibility targets only.
“
A replacement is ready for trial only when the housing interface and the filtration duty are recorded separately. A cartridge can fit the housing and still be wrong for the incoming load.

Release Boundary

A replacement configuration is released only after the agreed interface fields are checked. ECOFILTRONE is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by the trademark owners named above, and no blanket “drop-in” or better-than-OEM claim is made.

Configuration and product-family specification window

Confirmed family ranges do not ensure that all combinations of length, end connections and ratings exist. Selection is verified in the quote and technical sheet.

A 1 mm dimensional mismatch or the wrong flow direction can create seal risk even when the cartridge code looks familiar. Because interface details drive the physical fit, ECOFILTRONE provides an engineering drawing or specification for the selected configuration and asks the buyer to confirm it against the housing.

Commercial Terms for a Controlled Trial or Supply Order

An engineer-reviewed quotation is returned within 24 hours on business days after the operating and fit data is received. Price follows cartridge construction, quantity, interface, document scope, packaging and delivery terms; it is not derived from a generic online price.

Sample and Schedule

  • A free sample is available; the buyer pays freight.
  • Customized sample cartridges are prepared in 7 days after technical confirmation.
  • Stock items are prepared in 4-5 days.
  • Custom batch orders are scheduled in 14 days after technical confirmation and are reconfirmed in the quotation.

Order Terms

  • Custom configurations start at 100 pieces.
  • Payment is a 30% deposit and 70% balance before shipment.
  • Packaging and shipping coordination are confirmed for the order route.
  • Technical data, material certificates and applicable compliance documents are supplied on request after the product and certificate holder are verified.

“A cheaper element may cost more after labor and shutdown are counted” is why the trial record keeps 4 operating inputs on the same basis. Unit-price trade-offs remain unknown until flow, hours, cartridge count and changeout work are recorded.

Quality checks and technical documents for an approved configuration

Production routes depend on the product line and facility and can include pleating, membrane cartridge assembly, melt-blown extrusion, string winding, filter-bag cutting and sewing, end-cap welding or bonding, and cartridge assembly.

Before production

Before production, confirm the approved datasheet or drawing, material callout, rating basis, interface, seal and quantity. Any unresolved field remains open rather than being inferred from an OEM model name.

During inspection

Dimensional, integrity, flow and filtration-performance verification follows the selected product requirements. Inspection scope is defined on the order record.

Document release

Document release starts by checking the exact product and actual certificate holder before a certificate or compliance file is promised. Certification, testing and inspection records are treated as different document types.

An agreed order may include a drawing, sample and/or inspection evidence. “The quoted certificate may not cover the element being supplied” is why a company-level document is not automatically approved for every filter cartridge or every application.

How we work: application review to shipment and operating follow-up

1. Application review.

Address intake and water quality. Review recent evidence of water quality and protection duty.

2. Specification check.

Review the rating basis, the media, dimensions, seal, flow direction, flow rate, temperature and housing.

3. Technical confirmation.

ECOFILTRONE provides the appropriate datasheet or drawing and marks any field that needs buyer confirmation.

4. Sample or trial route.

Agree the trial element, comparison basis, recorded pressure drop, processed volume and acceptance criteria.

5. Production and inspection.

Follow the approved configuration for checks, packaging and shipping coordination.

6. Operating follow-up.

ECOFILTRONE supports installation and compatibility checks, analysis of service hours and differential pressure, troubleshooting, and filtration-configuration adjustment.

Change-control rule

A new intake condition, chemical program, housing revision, flow allocation or terminal DP criterion can change the selection. Send the revised operating record before repeating an old configuration.

Indonesia SWRO housing-fit case study

A project in Belawan, Indonesia, involved an SWRO application that required the provision of a customized high flow 60-inch element to fit an 8-inch housing. The fit review established an outside diameter of 169-170 mm, a 150-155 mm radial sealing interface and six support cages. Flow was in the outside to inside direction.

Mismatch risk centered on the housing seal and flow path, not a missing catalogue name. Because the 8-inch housing constrained the interface, ECOFILTRONE engineers used the measured dimensions and six-cage structure as the evidence record for the 8-piece supply.

What was checked

Overall dimensions, radial-seal geometry, end-face relationship and flow direction were checked against the existing housing. An 8-piece trial/project supply was prepared around that approved fit record.

What the case does not prove

This record does not establish service life, terminal differential pressure, RO membrane life or economic savings. Those outcomes need the plant’s operating data on an agreed comparison basis.

This example illustrates the difference between cross-referencing a brand code and verifying a housing interface. This is evidence of dimensional and seal matching only.

Conditions that require a wider pretreatment review

Hold cartridge selection when the incoming duty is not stable enough to define.

“Our inlet changes during algal or seasonal events” signals a fouling risk that a finer 5 µm cartridge cannot solve by itself.

Algal or organic event

Escalate the review when algal blooms, extracellular material, taste/odor compounds or toxin concerns appear. A cartridge can remove part of a particulate or protein load in a study without proving toxin control; treatment chemistry and dosing remain plant-specific decisions.

Unexplained rapid DP rise

Check upstream carryover, flow distribution, solids character, rating basis and element area before changing only the micron value. A fast pressure rise can be a process signal, not merely a cartridge defect.

Unknown housing interface

Do not release a replacement from an old code alone when length, OD, end interface, seal and flow direction are missing. Measure the installed element or obtain the housing drawing first.

No comparable trial basis

Do not claim a lower lifecycle cost when candidates differ in fit, rating basis, flow, cartridge count or changeout rule. Establish an equivalent basis, then record hours, volume, DP and labor.

SWRO Cartridge Match Sheet Builder

Build a quote-ready application brief without turning one water-quality number into a cartridge recommendation. The builder checks whether the stage, flow, retention and fit fields are present; an engineer still reviews the result.

Cartridge Fit Passport Checker

Compare the installed element with a proposed replacement on six interface fields. A “match” here means the entered values agree within the tolerance you set; it does not prove filtration performance, material compatibility or service life.

SWRO Cartridge Trial Comparison Ledger

Compare two runs on processed volume per cartridge, operating hours, changeouts and labor. Use the same housing, flow allocation, retention basis and terminal criterion; this calculator does not predict service life or process savings.

FAQ: SWRO filtration cartridges

It can sit after media or membrane pretreatment and before the high-pressure pump and RO membranes. Installed process design decides whether a separate cartridge stage is needed.

No universal rating is assumed. Selection needs the rating basis, upstream load, target protection duty, flow and allowed differential-pressure behavior.

A compatibility-target review is available when you provide the reference and interface evidence. Final release follows dimensions, end configuration, seal, flow direction, media and rating checks.

Send the installed reference, housing or element drawing, measured length and OD, end photos, seal details, flow direction, rating, material, flow and recent DP history.

No. Fit, retention, materials, flow distribution and incoming load are separate parts of the review.

No. It can increase loading and pressure drop while leaving the process cause unresolved.

Use the same housing, flow allocation, retention basis and changeout rule. Record operating hours, processed volume, DP trend, cartridge count and labor.

Yes. A free sample is available; the buyer pays freight.

Custom configurations start at 100 pieces. Product-specific exceptions can be checked in the quotation.

Customized samples are prepared in 7 days after technical confirmation, stock items in 4-5 days, and custom batch orders in 14 days after technical confirmation. Quotation review reconfirms the selected route.

Technical data, material certificates and applicable compliance documents are supplied on request after the product and certificate holder are verified.
